Bird Hills is located at the northern tip of the Fort Wayne Moraine. A moraine is a mass of rocks and sediment that are carried by a glacier, and then deposited as ridges–-and if you’ve been to Bird Hills, you’ve experienced some of those ridges! Formed about 14,000 years ago, the Fort Wayne Moraine is only one of the moraines that give Ann Arbor its characteristic undulating landscape. Join NAP at Bird Hills to support the unique natural habitat that exists here due to the moraine.
Meet at the entrance on Bird Road, west of Huron River Drive (additional parking in Barton Nature Area-Dam Entrance). Workday sites have unpaved trails and require going off-trail.
Preregister through VolunteerHub so NAP can plan on enough staff and supplies for a safe and successful event. For your safety, wear long pants, tall socks, and closed-toe shoes. All minors should be accompanied by a guardian. More information: How to prepare for a NAP workday (PDF).
