Marshall Nature Area is able to support a significant diversity of fauna and flora through its varied ecological communities and steep rolling topography. Wet shrub thickets transition to old field prairies, which transition to upland oak hickory forests and pine stands. These interesting transition zones support Washtenaw County’s most significant population of the Silvery Checkerspot butterfly and its host plant, woodland sunflower. Support the ecological communities at Marshall by removing exotic shrubs.
Meet at the parking lot off Dixboro Rd. Workday sites have unpaved trails and require going off-trail.
Preregister through VolunteerHub so NAP can plan on enough staff and supplies for a safe and successful event. For your safety, wear long pants, tall socks, and closed-toe shoes. All minors should be accompanied by a guardian. More information: How to prepare for a NAP workday (PDF).
