Grand-Raisin Conservation Community Spring Kick-Off 2023

March 25, 2023 @ 1:00 pm - 3:30 pm EDT

Free

Come and share one of the first days of spring with the Grand-Raisin Conservation Community as we continue to explore our “Sense of Place” project. This will be a great opportunity to meet with fellow stewards and outdoor enthusiasts, to learn about the Grand-Raisin Conservation Community and the work that we do, and to enjoy a nature walk at the beautiful Hidden Lake Gardens. Light refreshments and snacks will be provided.

Agenda:

1:00 pm – 2:15 pm: Spring Kick-Off Meeting
(snacks & networking starting at 12:30 pm)

2:30 pm – 3:30 pm: “Sense of Place” walk at Hidden Lake Gardens.

OPTIONAL PRE-EVENT ACTIVITY

A “sense of place” has many aspects and definitions. In truth, it is whatever the beholder thinks it is. The GRCC is focused on identifying publicly accessible natural places that can help residents and visitors appreciate what is so special about the upper Grand and upper Raisin watersheds. We need your input to help us develop this project and to reach a wider audience.

Here are some places where we could host “sense of place” walks this year to evoke the sense of awe you can get when you visit a natural area that speaks to you:

UPPER GRAND
MacCready Preserve, Haenhle Sanctuary, Dahlem Nature Center, Falling Waters Trail, Cascades Park, South Jackson (private property)

UPPER RAISIN
Hidden Lake Gardens, Watkins Lake State Park & County Preserve, YMCA Storer Camps, Leonard Preserve, Nan Weston Preserve, Kellwood (private property)

The GRCC is continuing to develop a sense of place project and to seek funding to highlight the natural places we and others find so special. We ask that you take some time before our Spring Kick-Off to visit one of your special places and put into words how it speaks to you. Your feedback will serve to jump-start our conversation as we plan these walks.

We are looking forward to welcoming spring with you on March 25!
