How do state and national policies & politics shape and affect local on-the-ground work conserving and restoring native ecosystems? Simple: bad political landscapes lead to bad policies, which in turn jeopardize our natural resources. The challenge is stopping those bad ideas from ever becoming law in the first place. Charlotte will overview how the team at Michigan League of Conservation Voters educates lawmakers, business leaders and community leaders about the bills that seek to harm our land, air, and water...and what it takes to change their minds. A number of specific case studies based on legislation that has recently moved through the state legislature (or has been stopped by Michigan LCV and its allies) will be discussed. Charlotte will also offer alerts about upcoming issues at the state or federal level and how folks can make their voices heard.
