Join Ellen Weatherbee at the Nan Weston Preserve at Sharon Hollow for a fun-filled trip to identify the spring wildflowers, shrubs, trees, and edible and poisonous mushrooms in one of the finest wildflower areas in southeast Michigan. Bring a 10X hand lens if you have access to one.

Ellen was instructor and head of the adult education program at the Matthaei Botanical Gardens and Nichols Arboretum for many years, teaching plant and mushroom identification and giving botanical hiking and kayak field trips to diverse sites in the United States, Canada, and Europe. She has been a consultant for wetland delineations and threatened plant surveys throughout Michigan and has taught botany for the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) and the Corps of Engineers for the wetland classes. Publications include Edible Wild Plants, a Guide to Collecting and Cooking; A Guide to Great Lakes Coastal Plants; a chapter on wild edibles in Plants, People, and Environment; Backpacking in Norway in Wilderness Camping; and the just-published Flora of Cockburn Island, Ontario in The Michigan Botanist.
