Jacqueline Courteau is a co-creator of the Professional Stewards Hikes series. She completed her M.S. and Ph.D. in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Michigan, and has worked for the Michigan Natural Features Inventory. She has been an adjunct lecturer teaching a range of classes, including field ecology, restoration ecology, and woody plants, at University of Michigan and Eastern Michigan University. She worked as a consultant for the Huron River Watershed Council to help develop their Bioreserve rapid ecological assessment process, and has done ecological research for the Huron-Clinton Metroparks, the Washtenaw County Parks, and the Ann Arbor Natural Area Program. Her research focuses on forest regeneration and on the impacts of mammalian herbivores, especially deer, on native vegetation, often incorporating floristic quality analyses.
