Help the Indiana Chapter of The Nature Conservancy as we restore and preserve the natural riches of the Hoosier State!
Join us outdoors in northern Lake County, Indiana, to help us protect, restore, and manage more than 500 acres containing a mosaic of rich habitats, including globally rare dune and swale habitat. Restoration efforts are geared toward helping delist the Grand Calumet River as an Area of Concern by reinstating beneficial uses related to wildlife and wildlife habitat. This is a unique opportunity to work in an area that contains more than 30 percent of Indiana’s rare and endangered species.
We are looking for a Grand Calumet River Restoration Crew Member to participate in restoration efforts as a member of a Grand Calumet River Restoration Action Team. They will assist in maintaining preserve areas and riverine marshes. Work may include controlling exotic invasive species, maintaining tools and equipment, monitoring wildlife, conducting preserve maintenance, learning how to identify native and non-native species, and preparing sites for prescribed burns. This is a 1-year position with an approximate start date of late May 2019.
The ideal candidates will have a background and track record that includes: High school diploma or GED and 6 months of related experience, experience operating various types of equipment in a safe and efficient manner, ability to obtain related licenses or certifications as required (e.g. First Aid, CPR, herbicide or pesticide application, driver’s license), experience working outdoors under adverse conditions, ability to recognize plant and animal species, and knowledge of natural systems and ecology.
