Volunteer Work Day at Beckwith Preserve
September 17, 2022 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am EDT
FreeOn September 17 from 10am-11:30am, Legacy Land Conservancy will be teaming with the Stockbridge Community Clean Up Club for a workday at Beckwith Preserve. Join us to help clear brush and remove the invasive species autumn olive.
Volunteers (using loppers and hand-saws) will cut back shrubs to two-inch stumps and help haul cut plant material. Stumps will be treated with herbicide by Legacy staff to ensure these hardy invasive plants don’t re-sprout in the spring.
Please dress for the weather and in clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. Pants and closed toe shoes are a must, regardless of the temperature, to protect from poison ivy and getting scratched up while working outside.
Legacy will provide tools and work gloves, but you are welcome to bring your own if you have a pair you like. Don’t forget a waterbottle and sunscreen. And, we suggest you bring bug spray to reduce the risk of exposure to ticks. (The Community Clean Up Club will provide snacks and a water cooler for refills!) Meet at the parking lot off M-106 on the east side of Stockbridge.
Please pre-register by emailing stewardship@legacylandconservancy.org or filling out the waiver
Questions? Call 734.302.5263 or email stewardship@legacylandconservancy.org
PS – While the cleanup is taking place, the Stockbridge Area Arts Council will be guiding artists into the woods for art expression activities using natural materials. For info: stockbridgeareaartscouncil@gmail.com
