Join us at Lake Erie Metropark to pull invasive vegetation and improve our Great Lakes natural ecosystem. Lake Erie is home to many marshes and ponds and is a premier location for viewing native birds in the Great Lakes region. Thousands of people visit the Lake Erie Metropark every year to view rare and elusive wildlife events, such as the yearly migration of Broad-winged Hawks. By removing invasive plants we encourage the growth of native vegetation, which provides food, cover, and refuge for many of Michigan’s most vital wildlife, including Egrets, Osprey, and Bald Eagles.
Register through the Metroparks website so HCM can plan on enough staff and supplies for a successful workday. Tools and know-how will be provided, and more specific information such as site location will be emailed to volunteers the week of the event. For your safety, long pants, tall socks, and closed-toe shoes are recommended. All minors should be accompanied by an adult. Pre-registration is required by 4 p.m. three days before the program.
