Bog Walk in Waterloo Recreational Area
June 18, 2022 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm EDT
Free
The Wild Ones Red Cedar Chapter will be taking a field trip to a bog in Waterloo Recreational Area on Saturday, June 18th. Anyone that is interested is welcome to join us! The hike will include an easy 1.5 mile walk (round trip) led by David Rothstein, Professor of Forest Ecology/Biogeochemistry at MSU. We hope to see rare bog plants such as pitcher plants and sundews, and learn about the ecology of the area.
The hike will start at 10 am at the Eddy Discovery Center, 17030 Bush Rd., Chelsea MI 48118. A Michigan Recreational Passport is required for entry. Those that are interested in carpooling should meet at 8:45 am at the “Park and Ride” lot near the intersection of Okemos Rd. and I-96 (2335 Woodlake Dr., Okemos MI 48864). Carpool drivers will leave at 9:00 am.
Please wear long pants, long sleeve shirts, a hat and bring insect repellent. Bring bottled water and a sack lunch to enjoy with other participants in an outdoor pavilion. Hope to see you there!
