The City of Ann Arbor's Natural Area Preservation engages volunteers in all aspects of their field work including using chainsaws, applying herbicide, and on the fire line. This presentation will focus on how volunteers are utilized safely and effectively in their controlled burn program. Recruitment, training, roles, logistics, and benefits will all be discussed.
Tina Stephens is the Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator for the City of Ann Arbor’s Natural Area Preservation. After obtaining her bachelor’s degree in Recreation Management with an emphasis in Outdoor and Environmental Education from Ferris State University she travelled the world for a bit before settling back to her homeland in southeastern Michigan. She now combines her love of teaching people about the natural world with her aptitude in managing logistics as she coordinates volunteers for programs including Park Steward, Citizen Pruner, and Controlled Burn Crew.
