The Southeast Michigan Lakeplain Cluster formed in 2008 to unite people working on public and private lands on the glacial lakeplain in St. Clair, Macomb, Oakland, Wayne, and Monroe counties. The Cluster supports both stewardship of natural areas and creative efforts to restore ecological function in urban spaces. Raising awareness about the unique natural communities that persist in the area - lakeplain prairie, lakeplain oak opening and wet-mesic flatwoods - is a major goal.
